Preschool That Prepares Children for Kindergarten and Beyond
Our preschool program offers early learning, social development, and kindergarten preparation for children throughout the Triangle Region in Raleigh, Knightdale, Wake Forest, and Wendell.
The Kids Educational Center offers full-time and part-time preschool programs for parents eager to prepare their kids for kindergarten through early academic learning, social skills, and classroom readiness. It really does take a village to do right by our kids, but we’re here to help!
Does My Child Really Need Preschool?
The short answer is, yes! Attending preschool does wonders for three- and four-year-olds’ early development. It’s important to give young minds every opportunity to start learning more concrete educational skills and get them used to being in a classroom before starting pre-K or kindergarten.
Kids Educational Center gives your child a taste of the classroom setting through play-based learning foundations. They won’t be forced to abandon their childhood games to sit at a desk and practice letters; instead, they will learn through fun activities, games, and dramatic play. Who says that reading, writing, science, and math can’t be fun?
What Do Children Learn in Preschool?
Kindergarten Readiness
Preschool isn’t just another form of daycare. While your child is only three or four years old, that’s a good time to start thinking about preparing them for school. That not only encompasses basic education, such as counting, recognizing letter sounds, and writing their names, but also feeling confident about being away from mom and dad.
If you didn’t need daycare while your child was an infant or a toddler, preschool is even more important for them. Being around peers and away from home is the most valuable form of school and Kindergarten readiness.
Learning Together
Fostering independence is a large part of our preschool program, but so is learning how to behave in group settings. Elementary school classrooms operate on a group level and stray away from one-on-one learning opportunities. Teaching kids how to act and learn in group settings is crucial for success in any aspect of life.
Sharing, taking turns, making friends, regulating behavior, and understanding classroom expectations are a major part of being successful in any classroom. Easing your children into this world alleviates the nervous butterflies on the first day of school and helps them feel confident, focused, and independent.
Build Early Academic Skills
One, two, three, you’re ready for school!
Our experienced daycare staff understands the importance of academic development while still making plenty of time for fun and games. That’s what being a kid is all about! Letters, early writing, counting, shapes, and basic problem-solving are taught through play-based, hands-on lesson plans so that preschool doesn’t start to feel like elementary school.
Kids grow up so fast; it can be tempting to keep them at home and pretend that the school years aren’t fast approaching, but they are. Being ready for school doesn’t just mean being academically ready, but also socially and emotionally. The best way to do that is with our trusted KEC staff, who want to see your children succeed as much as you do.

Preschool FAQs
What does my child do in preschool?
Kids participate in a variety of activities every day. From learning letters and numbers to personal skills like tying shoes and cleaning up after themselves, we prepare them to be confident and ready for elementary school.
What age group is preschool for?
At the Kids Educational Center, preschool classrooms are for three- and four-year-olds. If your kids are younger than three, they’ll be placed in an infant, toddler, or two-year-old classroom instead.
Is preschool different from pre-K?
Preschool differs from pre-kindergarten primarily in age group and curriculum focus. Pre-K is designed for a slightly older age group (age 5) and involves more structured lesson plans, for which we use the Learn Everyday curriculum.
Does Kids Educational Center offer all-day preschool programs?
Yes! If availability allows, we offer both part-time and full-time daycare and preschool programs. We understand that every parent’s work schedule is different, so we aim to be flexible with preschool.
Does my kid need preschool?
Yes, children are far more likely to succeed in the classroom if they are enrolled in preschool. Preschool at the KEC isn’t just another way of saying “daycare”; we help teach your kids how a classroom works and gradually introduce the educational, social, and personal skills they need to succeed.
